The Tools Behind Every Balance

Every session draws from the same toolkit — a set of techniques and tools built up over 15 years, each one earning its place for a specific reason. Nothing here is decided in advance; your body tells us, through muscle testing, which of these tools it needs that day.

This is the full map: what each modality is, why it's used, where it comes from, and how it connects to everything else.

01. The Foundation

The base layer everything else is built on — the systems that let the body speak, and the map that makes sense of what it says.

Founded Dr George Goodheart·1964

Kinesiology (Applied Kinesiology)

Muscle testing as a language — using gentle resistance testing to ask the body direct questions and listen to how it answers, bypassing the analytical mind to reach what's actually held in the nervous system. It's used because the body keeps score in ways the conscious mind often can't articulate; muscle testing gives a reliable way to find what's driving a pattern, rather than guessing from symptoms alone. Applied Kinesiology was developed by American chiropractor Dr George Goodheart, who first identified the link between muscle strength and the health of the organs, meridians and structures connected to them — it has since grown into dozens of specialised branches. NET is the main term used and often associated with Emotional work when seeing a Chiropractor.

How it connects

This is the foundation every other modality sits on. Once the body shows where the imbalance lives, everything below is a tool for shifting it.

Traditional Chinese medicine·2,000+ years

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) & Meridians

An ancient framework mapping the body's energy — Qi — as it moves through fourteen meridian pathways, each connected to specific organs, emotions and elements. Meridian theory gives kinesiology its map: when muscle testing shows an imbalance, TCM often helps us understand which system it belongs to. It has been practised and refined for over two thousand years, built on Five Element theory and the understanding that physical, emotional and energetic health are inseparable.

How it connects

Nearly every modality here draws on the same meridian map, core understanding of the 5 elements, chi energy and the electrical body. It's the connective tissue between the physical, energetic and emotional tools in this toolkit.

PKP — Professional Kinesiology Practice

PKP is a comprehensive kinesiology system that works across the body electrically, structurally, emotionally, energetically, spiritually and through personal ecology. Using tools such as finger modes, it can explore meridians, acupressure, colour, chakra psychology, neurological patterns, reflexes, posture, movement, nutrition, stress, belief systems and deeper subconscious patterns. Its strength is in the sheer depth and variety it offers, allowing multiple layers of a pattern to be explored within one balance rather than treating the physical, emotional and energetic body as separate systems.
How it connects

I use the PKP protocol to structure in most Kinesiology balances, including goal setting, subconscious sabotage, future pacing, and home reinforcement.

02. Emotional Release

Tools for finding exactly where an emotion is stored, and giving the body a way to actually let it go — not just talk about it.

Founded Dr Roger Callahan·1980s

Thought Field Therapy (TFT)

The original tapping therapy — a more structured, diagnostic form of acupressure tapping, where the exact sequence of points is muscle-tested for each individual issue rather than following one fixed routine. Because not every emotional block responds to the same sequence, TFT's individualised approach matches the tapping precisely to what the body is holding. Created by psychologist Dr Roger Callahan, TFT was the foundation EFT was later built from, and remains the more clinically structured of the two.

How it connects

Used alongside kinesiology testing, TFT lets a tapping sequence built in the moment, specific to what's showing up that day rather than a general protocol. Often used as Home tasking or reinforcement. This was actually the first modality I learnt and still use to clear toxins from insect bites and blue bottle stings to MSG and perfume headaches.

Founded Gary Craig·1990s

EFT — Emotional Freedom Techniques

A tapping technique — using the fingertips on specific acupressure points, usually on the face and upper body, while holding a thought or feeling in mind. Tapping appears to calm the body's stress response in real time, letting a charged memory or emotion be revisited without the same intensity, so it can be released rather than just managed. Developed by Gary Craig from Roger Callahan's Thought Field Therapy, EFT simplified the sequence into something anyone could learn and use themselves between sessions.

How it connects

EFT is often the tool that connects conscious thought and intention with meridian release— precise, quick, and easy for a client to continue at home. It is perfect when unconscious stress surrounds a specific goal or when an individual desires something but from a place of fear.

Founded Tad James·built on NLP

Timeline Therapy

A guided process for going back — in the imagination, not literally — to the root of a pattern along your own personal timeline, and releasing the emotional charge held at its origin. Many patterns carried as adults trace back to a single earlier moment, and this works with that moment directly rather than only managing its present-day symptoms. Developed by Tad James on NLP's model of how the mind organises memory in time, it's become one of the most widely taught techniques for releasing limiting decisions at the source.

How it connects

It is mostly the Gestalt work that will show up in clinic, both within your own timeline or within inherited timelines. This can be very empowering when the focus is on intergenerational trauma, healing time, song or dreaming lines.

Founded Dr Bradley Nelson

The Emotion Code

A muscle-testing method for identifying and releasing "trapped emotions" — specific emotional energies the body has stored, sometimes for decades, often without any conscious memory of the original event. A trapped emotion can sit in the body long after the mind has forgotten it, quietly influencing pain, mood and behaviour; this method finds and releases it directly. Developed by Dr Bradley Nelson, a holistic chiropractic physician, drawing on decades of clinical observation of the body's emotional memory.

How it connects

I love using the emotional code to clear static and stored emotions. Clinical experience consistently demonstrates that there are two stages to this: the emotions we hold on to when our nervous system is dysregulated and then a deeper layer when our nervous system is regulated.

Tradition Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy

A guided state of deep relaxation and focused attention, used to access the subconscious mind directly, where many long-held patterns and beliefs actually live. Willpower alone rarely shifts a deeply conditioned pattern — hypnotherapy speaks to the part of the mind that formed it in the first place. Hypnotherapy is studied and utilised in layers and, in all honesty, hardly comes up in clinic but is there as a tool if the client needs it to shift or achieve a specific goal.

How it connects

A complementary layer to Timeline Therapy and NLP, all three working with the same subconscious territory from slightly different angles.

03 Brain & Learning

Tools for the mind and its wiring — how it's organised, how the two hemispheres talk to each other, and how a bright mind gets out of its own way.

Founded Richard Bandler & John Grinder·1970s

NLP — Neuro-Linguistic Programming

A set of techniques for understanding — and gently reshaping — the language, beliefs and internal patterns that shape how someone experiences their life. The way we speak to ourselves about an experience often matters more than the experience itself, and NLP works directly with that internal language. Developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who studied what made certain therapists exceptionally effective and distilled it into teachable techniques.

How it connects

I was actually introduced to NLP learning styles and eye positions when teaching in the UK 25 years ago. NLP, language, eye positions and parts integration are widely used across all balances, especially children and teens.

Founded Paul & Gail Dennison

Brain Gym (Educational Kinesiology)

Simple, specific movements designed to support communication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain, improving focus, coordination and learning readiness. Movement and learning are deeply linked — when the two hemispheres aren't communicating well, concentration, reading and coordination often suffer, and Brain Gym works with the body to fix that at the source. Developed by educators Paul and Gail Dennison from decades of work in learning difficulties, it's now used in schools and clinics worldwide.

How it connects

The perfect follow-up activity to support integration at home, prepare the body for learning and promote longevity.

Founded Dr Charles T. Krebs · Australia

LEAP — Brain Integration Kinesiology

LEAP is an advanced kinesiology system focused on brain integration, neurological organisation and how stress affects learning, processing and function. It combines detailed neurophysiology with acupressure, meridian energetics and highly specific brain formatting to work with different structures, pathways and functional areas of the brain. Its depth allows practitioners to explore areas such as sensory processing, memory, attention, comprehension, coordination, emotional regulation, language, reading, writing and mathematical processing, while also addressing the stress patterns that can interfere with communication between different parts of the brain. Rather than simply focusing on a presenting difficulty, LEAP works through the neurological hierarchy to identify where integration may be disrupted and support more coordinated brain function.

How it connects

Used for retained reflexes, developmental delay, learning difficulties and nervous system injury or integration.

Founded Hugo Tobar·Neuroenergetic Kinesiology

Brain Formatting

A kinesiology technique for identifying and correcting how the brain is organising and storing information, addressing the deeper "formatting" issues behind persistent learning or processing blocks. Sometimes the issue isn't what's being taught, but how the brain is filing it — Brain Formatting works directly with that underlying structure. Developed by Hugo Tobar as part of Neuroenergetic Kinesiology, a contemporary branch of kinesiology focused specifically on brain-based correction.

How it connects

Frequently used with retained reflexes and balances focused around learning and adaptive learning behaviours.

Founded Shawn Sherman

Square 1 System

A nervous-system-first approach working with vision, balance (the vestibular system) and body-position sense (proprioception) — the three senses that shape posture, movement and how safe the brain feels in the body. Most chronic tension and pain trace back to the brain perceiving threat or instability, not to the tissue itself; Square 1 works upstream of that, resetting how the nervous system reads safety and load.

How it connects

A newer addition to the toolkit, often brought in for physical patterns — pain, stiffness, coordination and developing peak physical performance.

04 Subtle & Vibrational

The quieter layer of a balance— sound, colour, essence and frequency, working below the level of conscious thought.

Traditional Ancient to contemporary

Sound Therapy

The use of specific tones, frequencies and instruments — like a singing bowl closing a 90-minute or 2-hour balance — to shift the nervous system into a deeply relaxed, receptive state. Sound moves through the body as vibration, not just as something heard, offering a gentle, non-verbal way to help a balance settle and integrate. Sound resonates at the cellular level below language and reason.

How it connects

Often used with children using coloured crystal bowls or in the closing of a longer balance.

Founded Eileen Day McKusick·researched since 1996

Biofield Tuning Forks

Weighted tuning forks, struck and moved through the space around the body, used to locate and soothe areas of "turbulence" in the body's own electromagnetic field — the biofield. Where a singing bowl works through the ears, this works through direct vibration and resonance, letting the body's field entrain to a clear, steady tone rather than only being heard.

How it connects

Sits alongside Sound Therapy and Vibrational Therapies as another way of reaching the body through resonance rather than words — It is these amazing tuning forks on specific meridian points but also within your biofield.

Traditional PKP chakra-meridian colour framework

Colour Therapy

Using specific colours, associated with different energetic and emotional qualities, to support a balance — sometimes tested for directly through kinesiology to find what a person's system currently needs. Colour carries a vibrational quality the body responds to, often below conscious awareness, so testing for it directly means the choice is guided by the body rather than a guess. Colour has been used therapeutically across cultures for centuries, and sits within PKP's broader chakra-and-colour framework.

How it connects

Colour shifts what the brain can not articulate. In clinic, I use colour spectrum glasses, coloured scarves, coloured toys and hidden gems around the room for younger, more energetic children.

Founded Dr Edward Bach · 1930s | Ian White · 1980s

Flower Essences

Flower-based preparations taken as drops to gently support emotional and energetic balance. Bach Flower Remedies began with Dr Edward Bach’s 38 original essences, while Australian Bush Flower Essences, developed by Ian White, expanded this approach using Australian native plants and broader emotional and life-stage themes.

How it connects

Often selected during a kinesiology session and taken home to gently continue the emotional work of the balance.

Founded Rachelle Sewell & Mel Simmons·Australia

Resonate Essences

Vibrational remedies combining colour, light and sound frequencies with crystal, coral, flower and totem energetics in a single liquid base, designed to soften a negative emotional pattern and support the quality you're moving toward. Where a single flower essence works with one plant's energetic signature, Resonate Essences layer several elements together for a more targeted effect, usually selected by muscle testing rather than by name. These are my absolute favourite!

How it connects

Consistently used in clinic in the form of essences, oils and sprays.

Developed Anton Fedorenko·Infopathy

IC Pad (Infopathy)

A device that imprints water with a specific electromagnetic signal — an "infoceutical" — selected from a library of thousands, covering everything from stress and sleep to immune support and recovery. The water is then taken as a remedy, working with the body's sensitivity to information and frequency rather than any physical or chemical ingredient.

How it connects

In Clinic, the ICpad is applied directly to your body or alternatively used to make frequency water to support the body in between sessions.

Founded Samuel Hahnemann·late 18th century

Homeopathics

Highly diluted natural remedies, selected on the principle that a substance which causes symptoms in a healthy person can, in minute doses, support the body in healing similar symptoms. A gentle, low-intervention option that can support the body's own healing response alongside the energetic work of a balance. Only Remedies within the Kinesiology framework are tested and used. For complete Homeopathic Care, you will need to see a fully licensed Homeopath, which I am not.

How it connects

Working with CellSalts and birthing celestial signs for constitutional foundation comes up within all the specific Birth Balance and Human Design. Only the specific remedies and doses that are found within the Kinesiology Protocol are used. Homeopathic home reinforcement is powerful when it shows up and is used specifically for a goal or timeline, not required as a forever remedy.
